Careers is a professionally created database that covers a wide variety of “select” information from key publications. The visual, infographic interface provides a comprehensive selection of career paths from which researchers can choose from an alphabetical career list. Careers are selected by H.W. Wilson’s own expert staff from key publications to suit the needs of high school students, vocational college, and technical college students and for anyone interested in a career change.

Careers are further divided into subtopics, each of which has been identified as particularly relevant by Wilson specialist editors, who will expand and update listed careers and subtopics on a regular basis. These same editors have hand-picked the approximately 10-15 wide-ranging, informative full-text articles available on the specific career. These articles present a balanced view of careers, so that researchers can be assured they will come away from the articles with a good overview of a career or a subtopic.

Researchers may easily expand their search results by selecting pre-determined search parameters that will locate additional appropriate articles within WilsonWeb, offering other relevant facts and opinions, with feature articles, editorials, and scholarly papers. A targeted Web search will also highlight authoritative Recommended Web Sites. Additionally, a Job-Finder's Toolbox will provide other important links that will assist in career discovery and career searching techniques.

Users of the Careers database will also have the ability to converse with each other, through the social networking enhancement link, called Comments. Information can be shared, but will first be review by a Wilson editor before posting, to ensure that comments do not include objectionable language.

Search fields are not applicable. The interface provides access to career topics, subtopics, as well as additional new articles through the preset WilsonWeb or Internet search. However, the following fields are useful in cross-database searching, when other Wilson databases are selected along with Careers. Search terms entered in these fields retrieve relevant career topics. They also appear in the Browse window.

When searching multiple databases, terms entered using Keyword (KW) or All-Smart Search will also retrieve relevant records in the results set.
